This is the follow-up
to 1999’s Popa Chubby Presents New York City Blues,
which featured five of NYC's
finest players, plus Popa himself.
It was so well received and
generated so much interest in that group of friends and musicians,
that a second group of guitar-slingers
was rounded up from the wild streets of New York City.
Popa’s got a talented posse.
This time out he has gathered
five more of New York's baddest guitar players,
and one bad-ass bass player,
to join him in unleashing
The New York City Blues again.
Here's what Popa has to say by way of introduction
to this fine bunch...
| Irving Louis Lattin: Has a voice like
fine cognac on a hot summer night. He used to live in Chicago, but is now
my neighbor in Brooklyn. |
Matt Smith: Back again from the
first NYC Blues cd, Matt really gets to stretch out with more of those
licks you wish you could play. |
| Zach Zunis: You all know Zach’s
blazing West Coast-on-steroids sound from his work on Mason
Casey's two CDs, “Reefer Smokin’ Man” and “Soul on Fire”. |
Joe Taino: Joe originally hails
from Puerto Rico, and his Latin tinged Hendrix inspired blues lend a World
music flavor to this bunch. |
| Steve Logan: To call him a bass
player is a bit of an insult. To call him a consummate musician is still
not enough because he has the rare ability to play deeply from his heart
every time and choose the right notes that matter, instead of the ones
that waste your time. |
Lewis Gatewood: Lewis grew up in St. Louis
playing with the likes of Chuck Berry and none other than Albert King himself.
