What is the sound of The New York City Blues?
It gets your attention.
It is the sound of subway wheels screeching to a halt in Times Square during rush hour.

It is the sound of cross-town traffic and the blowing of horns from yellow cabs.

It is the sound of Blues, the kind of blues that makes you feel dirty and sweet all at once; it tastes of jazz and funk and salsa from the barrio. It says “dig it baby... hoy flaco ju got 5 dollars for me!?”

The New York City Blues doesn't screw around, it puts a blade to your throat and the barrel of a gun to your head.

It is diverse, direct, full of super-charged funky emotion.

The New York City Blues stands alone and leads where all else follows. From the bowels of Brooklyn we present to you 5 of the finest guitarists in the universe.

Some were born in New York, others found their way to the rotten core of the Big Apple.
(Remember, New Yorkers are made not born.)

All play the New York City Blues.

"BIG ED" SULLIVAN

Big Ed is the man.
He hails from Brooklyn, New York.

His trademarks are his unique jump/blues and rockabilly
tinged  tunes with sci- fi subjects like Flying Saucers and
Rock and Roll Zombies.

When Big cuts loose on his trusty Strat or big body Gibson
Super 400, look out.

His style is uniquely unselfconscious and visceral.

JAMES TILLSON

Originally hailing from Arlington Va. T- as he is known to all
but the bill collectors, grew up on the likes of Roy Buchanan
and Danny Gatton.

Listening to blues on the radio while digging graves at Arlington
National Cemetery after school, it is rumored he would learn riffs
from the spirits who were buried there.

After a brief time in Austin, T. found his way to The Big Apple,
where he has lived on The Bowery for the last 2 decades.

A master of finger picking techniques ala Dave Van Ronk and Jazz
chording ala Chuck Wayne T- walks, talks, eats, drinks, and sleeps
the blues as he blends complicated influences into an organic,
harmonic and lyrical style.

MATT SMITH
If there is one in this group who stands out as a guitarist
amongst guitarists it is Matt Smith.

Matt keeps a heavy touring schedule performing and
doing clinics for Hamer and Ovation.

He also is a contributing editor to Guitar Player Magazine.

But what it is all about for Matt is expression and he does
express sounds and soul both electric and acoustic to bring
a tear to the eye of the hardest hearted.

BOBBY CARSON
...or Junior B as he is known amongst his peers, has the pedigree
of Kansas City.

He learned his licks watching the masters at the legendery Grand Emporium.
